Robogames

Annual robotics competition held in Pleasanton, CA
Wide variety of competitions and different classes of events for teams

Two sumo classes

Mega (3kg, RC)
Mega (3kg, Autonomous)

Wildcard fourth class

Vending

Design Requirements: Mega

  • Cost: The estimated cost is $145.39 which is below the $360 cost ceiling
  • Weight: The estimated weight is 1.81kg which is below the 3kg weight limit
  • Durability: The Aluminum casing can withstand far beyond the 300N force benchmark
  • Size: The estimated size is 20cm long, 20cm wide which is the same as our size limit.
  • Quick/Agile: The 4 tank like treads will give the robot the much needed speed and a small turning radius.
  • Ease of repair: The robot can be disassembled by removing parts of the base to reach the interior of the robot to repair.
  • Controls: There will be automated control by programming from an Arduino. Also there is an opponent sensor for the robot to find the opposing robot.
  • Aesthetic Design: The design shown is not aesthetic however the final robot will have paintings and drawings from the team to give it color.

Design Requirements: Vending

Robogames description is open ended - Requirements developed by team & project sponsor
  • Cost: The estimated cost for the bartending robot is $114.25 which is below the $450 limit.
  • Weight: No strict weight limit will be enforced, but the design will be under 30kg, which can be comfortably carried by two team members
  • Variety of Drinks: The design accommodates 4 drink reservoirs, providing many possible combinations
  • Quick Setup: Setup will only require filling the drink reservoirs, which will be accessible from the design’s exterior
  • Speed of Dispensing: Gravity-assisted dispensing will be tested for all chosen fluids, and must dispense 1L in 60 seconds
  • Autonomous: Arduino-controlled valves will control dispensing from a single user input
  • Creativity: The design will include a user-interface and output speaker for a unique user experience
  • Aesthetic Design: The design will appear sleek and clean, with straight edges and standardized dimensions.
  • Quality Engineering: components will be machined and secured to within 1% tolerances, and programming will be tested extensively for bugs before presentation.

  • Multiple containers for holding different ingredients
  • A mixing container in the front of the machine to mix the ingredients to a single drink.
  • The final drink will be dispensed through a tap in which the user can determine the amount of liquid they want
  • A screen for the user to choose the drink they want to have mixed
  • The speaker will announce when the drink has finished mixing and is ready to serve.
  • The body will contain multiple tubes with an automated valve to release the liquid for a short time to get the desired amount of the liquid.
