Project Tasks

Task 1

  • Task 1.1 - Identify Existing Issues: Summarize known flooding problems, culvert deficiencies, and erosion concerns.
  • Task 1.2 - Records Review: Evaluate available reference materials such as drainage manuals as well as as-builts.
  • Task 1.3 - Research Existing Topo Data: Organize existing topographic information from the City of Flagstaff like LiDAR data.

Task 2

  • Task 2.1 - Document Existing Conditions: Documentation of the existing conditions in the Smokerise neighborhood.
  • Task 2.2 - Surveying: Surveying will be conducted to support existing topographic data and collect missing points of data.
  • Task 2.3 - Data Analysis: Topographic and survey data will be analyzed together to create a comprehensive map for other analyses.

Task 3

  • Task 3.1 - Watershed Delineation: Using topographic data drainage areas will be delineated.
  • Task 3.2 - Time of Concentration: Using NRCS TR-55 and HEC-RAS models, the time of concentration will be found with topographic information.
  • Task 3.3 - Design Storm Modeling: Modeling of the wash and neighborhood will be conducted for 10-year and 100-year design storms.

Task 4

  • Task 4.1 - Culvert Analysis: Analysis of the existing culverts will be conducted to assess current conditions.
  • Task 4.2 - Channel Analysis: Analysis of the existing channels will be conducted to assess current conditions.
  • Task 4.3 - Deficiency Identification: Deficiencies will be identified from culvert and channel analysis using appropriate municipal standards.

Task 5

  • Task 5.1 - Identify Constraints and Criteria: Development of constraints will come from assigning structured values based on the criteria of the project.
  • Task 5.2 - Develop Alternatives: Alternative designs for the project area will be created based off of identified constraints and criteria.
  • Task 5.3 - Select Best Alternatives: Alternatives will be ranked based on a decision matrix with quantitative and qualitative metrics.

Task 6

  • Task 6.1 - Final Hydraulic Design: Final hydraulic design will include detailed modeling and sizing of the selected alternative design for the 10-year and 100-year storm events.
  • Task 6.2 - Plan Set Creation: Preparation of construction-detailed drawings such as plan, profile, and typical sheets.
  • Task 6.2.1 - Cover Sheet/Existing Site Plan
  • Task 6.2.2 - Proposed Site Plan
  • Task 6.2.3 - Detailed Design Drawings
  • Task 6.3 - Construction Cost Estimate: An engineer's opinion of probable construction cost will be developed based on proposed materials, design quantities, and regional pricing.

Task 7

  • Impacts analysis will evaluate the broader implications of the Smokerise project on the greater area of Flagstaff, Arizona.
  • Economic, community, and local impacts. Both environmental, and global.
  • Enhances quality of life for Smokerise neighborhood residents.

Task 8

  • Task 8.1 - 30% Deliverables
  • Task 8.2 - 60% Deliverables
  • Task 8.3 - 90% Deliverables
  • Task 8.4 - Final Deliverables

Task 9

  • Task 9.1 - Schedule Management: The project schedule will be maintained and regularly updated in Microsoft Project to monitor task progress, dependencies, and milestones.
  • Task 9.2 - Resource & Budge Management: Staffing and resource allocation will be managed to balance workloads and maintain productivity.
  • Task 9.3 - Meetings & Quality Assurance: Meetings will be held regular with the team, client, technical advisor, and instructor to ensure quality assurance and peer reviews.

Gantt Chart

Project Timeline: January 12th, 2026 - May 5th, 2026

The Agua Jacks team utilized a Gantt chart to organize tasks and time to ensure project tasks were completed on time. Critical tasks were highlighted in red with non-critical tasks highlighted in blue. The second image is our original, incomplete Gantt chart.

Staffing Plan

The Agua Jacks team utilized a staffing plan broken down by task to predict the work hour cost of each task. Staffing hours were tracked appropriately by task to find the actual staffing hours by task.

Cost of Engineering Services

The Agua Jacks team utilized a staffing plan to predict the actual cost for this project. Staffing cost was calculated using the actual work hours that the team spent.
