Design Alternatives
The design alternatives shown below include sketches. This primarily consists of roof brainstorming and window placements. These drawings do not include specific structural framing for the first and second floors. Design 1 incorporates a Gable Roof truss with a king post and overhang on both sides of the structure. Design 2 consists of a monosloped roof with overhang on both sides. Design 3 also incorporates a Mansard Roof truss with larger windows and more roof members.
Decision Matrix
Sky High Structures has developed a decision matrix to determine which roof design our team should carry on with for the competition. This table is broken down by cost, assembly speed, aesthetics, sustainability, and durability. Each design is weighed and scored on a scale of 1 to 3, with the highest-scoring of design chosen for the final design. Design 1, the Gable Roof truss, has the highest score in the decision matrix.
Final Design
Our final design includes the elevation drawings for the front, back, and side of the structure. The final BIM model is also shown in these slides.
Construction Costs
The construction costs are used as a comparison for the estimated and actual costs. The cost estimate will likely change from what is shown in the table. For further information, visit Section 5 of the Sky High Structures Final Proposal Report.
