Task 1: Preliminary Laboratory Research & Organization Sample Headline

Background research and preparatory work for stormwater testing and analysis will be done so that the team is ready when a proper storm event occurs.

Task 2: Site Investigation Plan

In preparation for the site investigation, a field assessment form will be created to ensure organization and consistent data collection. Potential areas of interest will be geolocated using MapItFast.

Task 3: Creating the Location Inventory

The team will implement the site investigation plan, determining which locations are potentially viable for low impact development based on the clients request, and gathering field and watershed data about each location that is.

Task 4: Stormwater Quality Analysis

Using either a proper storm event or a simulated one, the team will gather road, parking lot, roof, and field runoff samples and perform lab testing.

Task 5: Identify Locations for LID Implementation

Using a decision matrix and the criteria given by our clients, the team will determine the best locations for LID implementation on NAU’s campus. The decision matrix for this project will evaluate which items from the inventory of the campus will benefit the most and serve as implementation locations.

Task 6: Design

The chosen design(s) will be drafted using CAD software with hydraulic analysis being completed using CulvertMaster and FlowMaster. The existing hydraulic conditions will be compared with the design hydraulic conditions.

The impacts of the design(s) will be analysed and reported.

Task 8: Deliverables

All deliverables will focus on the progress of this project to meet the client’s expectations. These deliverables will also ensure that the project stays on schedule. The final submittal will include the final report, presentation, and website.

Task 9: Project Management

Project management will consist of meetings between members, technical advisor, and grading instructor, in addition to managing the team schedule through the gantt chart and following the proposed budget.

Cost of Services and Staffing

Below is the estimated and actual cost breakdown by task and role for billable services. The project took 139 hours less than predicted which reduced staffing costs by $14,122. A large number of hours were saved from stormwater quality analysis because the BOD5 and FOG tests were removed from the project scope.

Below is the total cost of engineering services including the billable services and resources costs. The estimated total cost was $61,936 while the actual cost is $48,409. The personnel costs were lower due to less hours being spent on the project than predicted and the resource costs were greater because more time was spent using software than predicted.
