Project Desription
The Ponderosa High School (PHS) sustainability project is to analyze and improve the current off-grid renewable system for the PHS greenhouse. PHS is a small high school located in Flagstaff, dedicated to bringing new opportunities and STEAM learning to their students. The renewable energy system currently has a wind turbine, four solar panels, and a 24-volt battery storage system. The PHS greenhouse is powered by their renewable energy system, keeping the plants and animals (a bunny, a tortoise, and fish) in a healthy environment. To improve the greenhouse, the team is increasing solar energy and adding human powered energy generation. The improvements will be used to have additional features (heat lamps, fans, and lights) in the greenhouse and continue STEAM learning for students at PHS.
