Project Description

The project was inspired by Honeywell's Butterfly Valves. The bearings within the valves experience forces both radially and axially. The team designed a fixture that applies forces on ball bearings to simulate these conditions. The goal was to determine how the rotational friction within the ball bearings changed under loading. The final design applies forces in both directions while rotating the shaft with a stepper motor The system is connected to a computer using Arduino which allows the user to operate the fixture and analyze the data.
